OK, this was a pretty bloody great project to work on. Not because of all the cool kids and interesting teachers we got to shoot (sure that was fantastic too) but Dr. Sidlauskas was AMAZING. Dr. Sidlauskas, or “Doc” as she is affectionately called, founded the school in 1981.You can read a bit about her and the story behind the school here, but I’ll give you the Coles notes; 97 years old and loaded with crazy stories from her life, sharp as a tack, still 100% dedicated to her passion and totally involved in the school, totally happy to sit down and chatting about…everything,  with a lowly photographer. Out of everyone I’ve met in my life so far, Doc is definitely on my top 5 list of  people worth sitting down and listening to. Seriously.

Hydro Ottawa recently acquired a new Chevy Volt, which they had wrapped. The idea is to promote the company’s “shift to green” in an ongoing effort to spread knowledge about energy conservation. More here. We did some photos, and a short video to introduce it.

In chronological order: Fly to San Diego; get rental car; 20 minutes on the beach; location scout; put on suits; awkward event; eat amazing sushi on a patio; sleeeeeeep; long day shooting (still and video) in 5 locations; cheese plates and head squishing; $8 bottle of gin; bad late night taco; sleeeeeep; fly  home……

Another little photo/video project. Hydro Does this United Way Day to raise money internally for the United Way. They played dodge ball, did bull riding, had a classic car show, even threw paint soaked sponges at management. I think everyone had fun. Watch the video below…

So I did this shot of Ike Awgu who was running for Ottawa City council in the Bay ward. I chose Britannia beach as the shoot location because its the only place iconic about bay ward other than the big coliseum movie theater. In my mind anyway. Theres also a transitway station? a couple of malls?

Anywho, Ike decided to drop out of the race, so his story was pulled and the picture you see below never made it to print…..or did it?

Did a pretty cool project with Carleton University Magazine this past summer that just hit the stands. We headed down to Toronto to photograph and film Dan Bergeron, a local street artist. I would tell you all about it, but Fateema’s already done all the work here. You can also have a look at some of the video we shot for Dan’s story and a few other little snippets on that page.

Here is one of the videos of some random people on the street telling us what they thought about Dan’s installation at the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art, where I photographed him for the above image.

Did a little shoot for Prélude Magazine and got to hang out in the costume room at the NAC. Pretty cool space, pretty cool people. Also got a sneak peek at some costumes for the upcoming Romeo and Juliet production. Wasn’t allowed to show any of that stuff in photos unfortunately.

Did a great project with the Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse a while ago. The project was to photograph a series for their board room showing people who work in different areas of substance abuse. These include treatment, prevention, research, etc. One in particular was Darlene, a former drug user, who works at a needle exchange in Montreal and does “interventions”. I throw the quotations in there because it’s really only intervention in title.  Darlene helps people work towards getting better by trying to improve the way they feel. She believes improving quality of life improves state of mind, and people with that have a better chance of cleaning themselves up because they know what it’s like to feel good.
